THE MARKS OF THE CINEMA IN CANNES: MURALS

The Cannes’ painted wall route is a brilliant tribute to the cinema in huge frescoes where you’ll have fun discovering a film title, an actor, a personality… In the city centre, in Le Suquet or near the Port, these murals show the great figures in French and world cinema: Alain Delon, Jean-Paul Belmondo, John Wayne, Bourvil, Vivien Leigh, Harold Lloyd, James Dean, and even Alfred Hitchcock. CANNES THE QUEEN OF DRAMA: FOLLOW THE CHEMIN DES ETOILES!

Los Angeles has its « Walk of Fame » on Hollywood Boulevard, Cannes has its Chemin des Etoiles!

At the foot of the Palais des Festivals, handprints and signatures of actresses, actors, directors form a path of glory in the cinema. Among them: Claudia Cardinale, Diane Kruger, Kristin Scott Thomas, Angelina Jolie, Pedro Almodovar, Luc Besson, Tim Burton, Sylvester Stallone, Jack Nicholson and Claude Lelouch. A route that punctuates the Esplanade Georges Pompidou and its gardens, as Cannes’ nod to the 7th art which attests to the presence of more than 400 celebrities in Cannes. Come walk in the footsteps of celebrities that have left their mark on Cannes!

Photographers in Cannes – from father to son for almost a century!

First there was Auguste, who captured the arrival of Louis Lumière at Cannes railway station, who was the honorary president of the first festival. And then after him came Henri, his grandson and now Gilles. A family that has a collection of more than 1.7 million photographs of the Cannes Film Festival, the cinema and its personalities. A family heritage that stands out as a memory of Cannes, its festival, ceremonies and mythical festivals. The Traverso collection has been exhibited all over the world: New York, Beverly Hills, Sarajevo, Turin, Paris, London, Tokyo, Yokohama, and Shizuoka.

Cannes, cinema capital and film location!

Immortalized innumerable times in the cinema or on television through films, TV shows, documentaries or commercials, Cannes attracts filmmakers! Brian de Palma, for Femme Fatale, Louis Leterrier, for The Transporter, Jacques Audiard, for Rust and Bone, and many others, have all chosen to show off Cannes, emblematic city of the cinema, in their feature films. Authentic setting, sunshine, natural scenery and international renown are all assets that fulfil production requirements. Over the last 3 years, nearly 600 film shoots have taken place in the city of cinema.

Cannes launches its Cannes International Series Festival!

Born in the spring of 2018, the Cannes International Series Festival – CanneSeries – aims to promote series around the world. A week on the sidelines of the MIPTV (international market for television and digital content) during which screenings, meetings and master classes take place throughout the city. As for the International Film Festival, the stars of the small screen have the right to their carpet… but theirs is pink!

FROM CINEMA TO SERIES: CANNESERIES INSTITUTE

Cannes celebrates cinema and film creation!

In line with CANNESERIES, Cannes is also launching a writing residency dedicated to series aimed at young authors. 8 French and international writers will follow this intensive program from the spring 2019.

2 themes:

o   Croisette Tour based on the cinema theme: history of the Cannes Film Festival, the life of the luxury hotels, La Croisette, Palm Beach, anecdotes about private evenings and past celebrities in Cannes.

o   History Tour: Cannes old town, far from the glitter of La Croisette, discover the changes in architecture: from the old stones of La Castre to the modernity of the Palais des Festivals

o   8 languages (French, English, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Written Arabic, Chinese)

o   Rates: €12/€6 (child aged 6-12) for the Big Tour (Croisette Tour + History Tour) or €8/€4 for just one of the two tours.

o   No booking required, tickets sold on site, regular departures

Tour of the Palais des Festivals “at the heart of the myth”

 

Perfect for discovering the secrets of the second largest conference centre in France: the Palais des Festivals, which hosts numerous events throughout the year.

Rate: €6, free for the under-16s

Duration: 1½ hours, ad-hoc visits, check dates with the Cannes Tourist Information Centre, booking mandatory.

The Barrière Cinema-club

On La Croisette, The Majestic Barrière Cannes Hotel offers private film screenings in a cosy room.

These small-scale or even private screenings take place every Sunday evening.

The activity is completed by a glass of Champagne during the screening and a visit to one of the seven “Signature” suites at the Majestic hotel.

Rate: €35, on reservation only (on 04 92 98 77 03)
