Nice carnival, a unique experience!

Nice Carnival 2023 : King of World Treasures

from February 17 to  March 3, 2024

Nice Carnival is one of the biggest carnivals in the world! Every year thousands of visitors come to take part. Two top events: the flower battles and the carnival parade.

THE FLOWER BATTLE, DURING THE CARNIVAL

A beautiful grand parade of floats through the city!

Like the carnival parade, the flower battle is an event not to be missed on the Côte d’Azur. Take part in this parade, mainly around the Albert 1st Gardens and Place Masséna, on Saturday and Wednesday afternoons. Mimosa, lilies, daisies, carnations, and roses are thrown… to the spectators come to enjoy the flower battle. Did you know? Most of these flowers come from the hills behind the Côte d’Azur. The flower battle is a unique event and has made the Nice Carnival famous. Costumed performers parade on floats decorated with flowers and hand out over 100,000 flowers to the public!

THE MAGIC OF THE ILLUMINATED CARNIVAL PARADE

The Nice Carnival King makes his appearance in front of the crowd – and the parade begins.

The King arrives marking the beginning of the Nice Carnival parade. A breathtaking show lasting 2 hours, with twenty illuminated floats and lots of huge heads demonstrating the creativity of the floats with characters up to 20 meters high! A spectacle that makes children dream and takes adults back to their childhood.

There are 5 illuminated parades during the Nice Carnival. On Saturdays and Tuesdays, come and spend the evening enjoying the illuminated carnival parades.

The last one is special because it is when the old King is burned and the theme of the next Nice Carnival is revealed. A moving moment where everyone takes up the song: Nissa La Bella to close the event.

DON’T MISS THE FLOWER BATTLE ON WATER AT VILLEFRANCHE-SUR-MER

On the sidelines of the Carnival of Nice, the neighbouring town of Villefranche-sur-Mer perpetuates its own version of the flower battle… but this time on water! The Flower Parade on the sea, where twenty traditional boats, decorated with multicoloured flowers, parade in front of thousands of spectators.

The fishermen, dressed in the traditional dress, pass near the water’s edge throwing flowers to the delight of the public! There is also entertainment – folk music groups, shows and games, etc. around the Citadel.
