The delight of the mimosa flowers, the expertise of perfumers, the beauty of exceptional gardens, the genius of great painters, the beautiful hours of the cinema or the Baroque follies, these thematic and legendary routes… are well worth a detour!

GOLDEN CITIES

Picturesque and natural for 130 kilometres, the Route du Mimosa puts a little sun and light into your winter.

Between January and March the mimosa, an Australian species that arrived on the Côte d’Azur at the end of the 19th century, is in full bloom. A magical spectacle created by the thousands of large trees studded with hundreds of golden buttons that warm landscapes numbed by the cold. They are the common thread that takes you from village to village, from Bormes-les-Mimosas, one of the most beautiful flower cities in France, to Grasse, the cradle of perfumery, via Sainte-Maxime, le Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer, Saint-Raphaël, Tanneron, Pégomas, and Mandelieu-La Napoule, which hosts the famous Mimosa Festival and its colourful floats. A FESTIVAL OF THE SENSES!

In Grasse, one route ends and another begins: the Perfume route!

Here, the art of perfumery goes back a long way – to the 16th century. And is still alive! In Grasse, of course, stronghold of the Musée International de la Parfumerie (MIP) and numerous perfumers. In the surrounding hills where you can visit the perfume gardens of the Isnard family, the Domaine de Manon or the Mas de l’Olivine (Au Pays d’Audrey). And in the surrounding villages: Mouans-Sartoux for the Jardin du MIP, a magnificent aromatic plant conservatory, Tourettes-sur-Loup for the last producers of violets, Gourdon, for La Source Parfumée and Vallauris for its cooperative specializing in orange blossom.

Nature offers its charms and times for contemplation, but is never more beautiful than when tended by human hands. The Côte d’Azur Garden Route guides you to some of the most remarkable gardens in the Alpes-Maritimes department. Among them, some gardens of Eden that are the pride of the municipalities: the Serre de la Madone, one of the jewels of the famous gardens in Menton, the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild gardens, arranged like the bridge of a transatlantic liner, or even the Jardin Exotique in Eze, perched on a peak 400 meters high which drops sharply into the Mediterranean.

Discover a new legendary route on the Côte d’Azur: the Cinema Route! It has to start on La Croisette of course. Admire the Carlton and its beach, both immortalized in Alfred Hitchcock’s thriller “To Catch a Thief”. Climb the steps up to the Palais des Festivals as the stars of the Cannes Film Festival do in May every year. Find the handprint of your favourite actor among the 400 on the Chemin des Etoiles around the Palace.

After Cannes, continue your tour of the most mythical places on of the Côte d’Azur – version cinema!

Continue your holiday film in Saint-Tropez, in the Musée de la Gendarmerie which celebrates the Assistant Commandant Cruchot, played by Louis de Funès, and, more broadly, the cinema “made in Saint-Tropez”, so dear to a certain Brigitte Bardot. Finally, remember some mythical scenes played by Princess Grace of Monaco, Never say Never Again, the Man in the Iron Mask, Ronin and Brice de Nice in the alleyways of Menton, the Citadel in Villefranche-sur-Mer, the Promenade des Anglais, Fort Carré and Ile Sainte-Marguerite, or St Tropez, Ramatuelle with « la piscine », Giens « le grand bleu », back country in dracénie for « Magic in the Moonlight » by woody allen, « Enfin veuve » in St Mandrier six fours bandol…

BAROQUE FESTIVITIES ON THE CÔTE D’AZUR

Ultimate mythical route for holidays full of discoveries and emotions: the Baroque Route.

Taking you all over the area around Nice, this region which, because it was for many years Italian, embraced the artistic style born in the heart of the Vatican in Rome in the 17th century. It starts in Nice’s old town with the Palais Lascaris and the churches of Gésù and Sainte-Rita. It runs along the sea to Menton and the Saint-Michel basilica. It goes up the Roya valley to Brig and the Saint-Martin priory. Finally, it goes along the old Route du Sel stopping at Sospel, a beautiful village at the gateway to the Mercantour and home to the Saint-Michel cathedral.
