COLLOBRIÈRES, MAURES MOUNTAIN RANGE, SWEET CHESTNUT CAPITAL OF THE CÔTE D’AZUR

Surrounded by vines and sweet chestnut trees, Collobrières is well known as being the sweet chestnut capital of the Côte d’Azur. It is also the capital of the Maures. This characterful village, where it’s great to take a stroll, is therefore the perfect starting point to discover the Maures mountain range.

A “VILLAGE OF CHARACTER”

Narrow cobbled streets, historic monuments, fountains and small shady squares… Collobrières is a small Provencal village that has been able to retain all its authenticity. Surrounded by vines and sweet chestnut trees, walks in the village and its surrounding area are extremely pleasant. Collobrières is crossed by the Réal Collobrier river. Its gentle current lets you enjoy the ducks swimming up and down.

It is also very certainly the reason that it has now been awarded the “Villages and cities of character” label.

While the tour of the heart of the village and the arboretum may be taken on foot, that of Chartreuse de la Verne, the monastery listed as a religious historic monument, requires you to enter the Les Maures public woodland.

SET OFF TO DISCOVER THE MAURES MOUNTAIN RANGE

Collobrières is located in the heart of the Maures mountain range. It is therefore the ideal starting point to discover this, especially via the Balcon des Maures [Maures Balcony] hiking trail.

This route, which starts from the stadium car park (eastern entrance to the village), offers magnificent viewpoints over the village of Collobrières, the Maures mountain range, the coastline and the Alps, with the option to go to the Notre Dame des Anges [Our Lady of the Angels] monastery for an additional 3.2 km round trip.

COLLOBRIÈRES, SWEET CHESTNUT CAPITAL

Collobrières is synonymous with sweet chestnuts!

If Collobrières is considered as the sweet chestnut capital, it is above all because, every year, the village ensures it celebrates this little fruit so emblematic of the Maures mountain range, over three Sundays in October.

The sweet chestnut grove of the Var is mainly concentrated in the Maures mountain range with no fewer than 2,000 hectares spread over the towns of La Garde-Freinet, Gonfaron, Les Mayons and Pignans.

Its authenticity and its scent of freedom are preserved thanks to a forest of sweet chestnut trees without any real fences.

Prepare your tastebuds… because the Var sweet chestnut is preparing a journey for you between holt and cold, thanks to its grilled or iced specialties.

The Var sweet chestnut is recognized as having an excellent taste quality.
