THE VILLAGE OF UTELLE – VESUBIE VALLEY

Exceptional panorama between sea and mountains…

It is said that the most beautiful panorama in the department can be found here… From its viewpoint indicator, you will have a 360° view over the mountains and Mercantour National Park. An old medieval village, throughout your walk you will discover the remains of fortifications, and also beautiful trompe l’oeil façades, sundials and fountains. You can’t miss a tour of the Sanctuaire de la Madone d’Utelle, the origins of which date back to the year 850 and which is owed, according to the legend, to Spanish sailors saved by Mary from a certain shipwreck.

VILLAGE OF LA BOLLENE-VÉSUBIE

Gateway to the Authion mountain range and the Valley of Marvels

La Bollène-Vésubie is a very old village built on the side of the mountain, dominated by its Baroque-style church which can be seen from afar. From its lookout point, you have an unimpeded view over the valley from which the town takes its name, and its charming staircase alleys allowing you to discover beautiful buildings that have seen more than one walker pass by. On the way, allow yourself to be lulled by the sweet song of the fountains, ever present in these little mountain villages.

THE VILLAGE OF LANTOSQUE

Straddling its rock…

Destroyed several times by various earthquakes over the past centuries, the village appears to be indestructible despite having one of the most precarious placements on a rocky peak. By taking the alleyways that lead up towards the church of Saint Sulpice, you will pass by ancestral homes built of dressed stone and with beautiful carved doors. Once at the top, you can then admire a general view of the village with a multitude of roofs covered in old Roman tiles. Don’t miss the fountain that dates from 1866.

SAINT-MARTIN-VESUBIE

Gateway to the Mercantour National Park…

At the gates of the Mercantour National Park, between the valleys of Boréon and La Madone de Fenestre, the picturesque village of Saint-Martin-Vésubie invites you to discover the charm of the Nice Uplands through its exceptional natural sites, its cultural and architectural heritage, and its plentiful leisure options. The village retains the traces of its medieval origins: the main street, the entire length of which is bordered by a little canal known as the “béal”, will show you the charm of the old stone houses. Located nearby: Vésubia Mountain Park, La Madone de Fenestre, Boréon, Alpha Park, not to mention the multiple hiking trails in the heart of the Mercantour.

THE VILLAGE OF VENANSON – VESUBIE VALLEY

An unimpeded view over the Mercantour forests…

From small, narrow alleyways bordered by houses jammed tightly together, flat stone passageways, small staircases and bubbling fountains, this village built like an eagle’s nest overlooks the Vésubie Valley and, from the edge of its cliff, will offer you an undefinable but vertigo-inducing view! At the entrance to the village you will also discover the little Saint-Sébastien chapel with its wall paintings, built in 1467 to protect the village from the plague.
