8th Roya Early Music Festival: Waiting for Johann Sebastian Bach, violin solo with Odile Edouard

Odile Edouard explores 17th-century repertoire with Freddy Eichelberger and Alain Gervreau in their ensemble "Sine Titulo", and 18th-century repertoire with Philippe Despont. She has performed at most of Europe's major festivals. Her discography includes over 40 recordings for Harmonia Mundi, Arcana, L'Empreinte Digitale, L'Encelade, Hortus, Sinfonia and K617.
Many Italian composers and violinists were called to the courts of Germany and Austria during the first half of the 17th century, demonstrating the existence of a cultural Europe around music. In the process, violin virtuosity developed in this part of Europe, leading to the practice of polyphonic playing in a Europe that blended at the mercy of princely alliances.
The chronological and violinistic journey through Europe proposed in this concert is mainly based on Germanic repertoire. One of the particularities of the program in this book-disc is that each piece was written by "composer-violinists". Each with a different playing style, one can imagine that these works are the fruit of numerous improvisations put down on paper. The boundary between improvisation and composition is therefore very permeable...
