Dialogue between the great classical repertoire, the origins of art, today's creation and traditional music.
This exceptional concert offers a true sonic journey spanning classical repertoires, traditional music, and contemporary creations. Violinist Saskia Lethiec, violist Karine Lethiec, clarinetist Michel Lethiec, and composer-pianist Kryštof Mařatka invite us to explore the bridges between cultures and eras, alongside David Mařatka and Milena Dolinová.
The program opens with Rebecca Clarke's Dumka (for violin, viola, and piano), followed by excerpts from Antonín Dvořák's famous Dumky Trio (in a revisited version for clarinet, viola, and piano by Kryštof Mařatka). An unusual interlude featuring traditional and prehistoric instruments from the composer's personal collection enriches this sonic journey.
At the heart of the concert, the world premiere of Kryštof Mařatka's Haiku Songs for solo violin extends the exploration of contemporary musical poetry. It echoes Csardas I, a work inspired by the folk music of Central Europe, co-written with Milena Dolinová.
Emblematic works from the Romantic repertoire also echo each other: an excerpt from Dvořák's New World Symphony, in an original transcription for solo piano, Robert Schumann's Romance for Violin and Piano, and three pieces from Max Bruch's Eight Pieces, Opus 83, for clarinet, viola, and piano.
The evening concludes with the energy of Klezmer, with traditional songs and dances, and the joyful swing of Bugatti Step, a Czech-American ragtime by Jaroslav Ježek.
A lively celebration of the dialogue between the arts, peoples, and traditions—between old and new worlds.
