Ukiyo-e, image of a floating, ephemeral world. It was under this name that Japanese prints appeared at the end of the 17th century.
The world of passing time, that of the pleasures of Edo (Tokyo) society, is the essential theme of this art form. Show scenes, portraits of women, parodies, landscapes... the exhibition offers an overview of this ephemeral art form, intimately linking realism and spirituality, as well as an in-depth exploration of the work of the great masters Hokusai and Hiroshige.
