Nathalie Broylle's work is an exploration of how women, imprisoned through history, art and beliefs, in sociological and moral patterns and religious or historical legacies, seek to free themselves from them.
This dialectic—fulfillment and constraint, confinement and freedom—generates the tensions that run through the female body: sensual and damaged, strong and vulnerable, desirable and constrained.
Using a variety of mediums—drawing, painting, installation, printmaking, and sewing—Nathalie Broyelle explores representations of women to reveal their ambiguity and suggest a metamorphosis to overcome their condition.
