Between 1935 and 1938, playwright Bertolt Brecht wrote the play The Great Fear and Misery of the Third Reich, in which he describes daily life under the fascist regime of Nazi Germany in the 1930s.
For Julie Duclos, taking on this poetic, lively, and highly topical play is a way to understand how and where fascism enters and, insidiously, how it comes to tear apart the trust and goodwill of human relationships.
The play is composed of scenes that unfold from Hitler's rise to power in 1933 to the outbreak of war in 1938. Through Bertolt Brecht's powerful words, we quickly understand that, by 1933, everything was already there. Fear, the vicious mechanism of fascism, permeates all levels of society and is no longer felt only on the battlefield or in political meetings, but also in the privacy of a kitchen, a bedroom, or an office. Relationships are transformed, damaged; words become dangerous and deadly. We can no longer trust anyone; we mistrust and lie to survive. Julie Duclos asks us here, with great emotion: what would remain of our own humanity if we lived under an oppressive regime?
With Rosa-Victoire Boutterin, Daniel Delabesse, Philippe Duclos, Pauline Huruguen, Yohan Lopez, Stéphanie Marc, Mexianu Medenou, Barthélémy Meridjen, Étienne Toqué, Myrthe Vermeulen
And the children [alternating] Mélya Bakadal, Salomé Simon Botrel, Philae Mercoyrol Ribes, Elliot Guyot Lavalou, Julien Petersen, Raphaël Takam
