After studying Graphic Art in Paris, Jacques Parnel worked as a graphic designer and illustrator at the SNIP agency headed by Jacques de Pindray. Then he began a career as an independent illustrator dedicated mainly to advertising and press.
His style is realistic, influenced by the American hyperrealists. Cinema also has a very strong impact on his sources of pictorial inspirations: Hitchcock, Tati, Spielberg with his film Duel, or Antonioni with Zabriskie Point. Discovering Norman Rockwell and Edward Hopper will be very important in his career.
After his installation in Biot, he began a personal production of painter (series: UFO, Architectural follies, The shadow of a doubt). The work on "Folie XXe" series continued for several years.
