Towards the middle of the 11th century, the Lords of Roquebrune settled on a mound of rock.
The Roca Bruna Castrum was built at the end of the 10th century. Following a succession of Saracen attacks in the region, the people looked to settle on the nearest and most easily defendable hill. In the Middle Ages, this fortified enclosure protected the population from the ravages of civil war as well as from disease.
