The freedom to drop anchor is a source of degradation of the seabed by the destruction of Posidonia, a vital ecosystem for the coast, where species find habitat and a reserve of oxygen. A fundamental ecosystem also for the protection of beaches by reducing the phenomenon of erosion. To respond to this problem, the Port-Cros National Park is taking action and setting up a ZMEL to preserve the marine environment. The ZMEL is a regulated maritime area whose mooring devices allow ecological anchoring. A development that also offers better reception and safety conditions for visitors.
The ZMEL of 176 ha is a protected area. The Port-Cros National Park provides 68 mooring buoys with ecological anchors:
60 buoys (reserved for units from 0 to 15 meters) in 4 mooring areas:
North Bagaud (11)
South Bagaud (19)
Anse Saint-Pierre (15)
Counterfeit Currency Cove (15)
5 buoys for units between 15 and 30 meters.
3 buoys for residents of the island of Port-Cros (units less than 15 meters).
Anchoring is prohibited all year round in this area. As a reminder, the marine heart of the Port-Cros National Park prohibits anchoring for vessels over 30 meters.
The ZMEL will be available to the public from April 15 to October 15.
During the day, the use of the equipment is free and free from 08:00 to 18:00.
At night, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., mooring will be chargeable and subject to reservation conditions.
