RENEE ROBITAILLE - 9 p.m.: ‘Peau de crabe’
Is there any greater flaw than marrying a crab? What ingenious means can be used to hypnotise a dog as tall as a tower? How many nights does it take to reach the top of an endless tree? To unravel these adventures and survive the betrayals, it is best to be enlightened by the flowery words and skilful gestures of Quebec storyteller Renée Robitaille.
MIKE BURNS - 10:15 p.m.: ‘Pour Raccourcir Le Chemin’
An evening of traditional storytelling in the purest oral tradition. Mike Burns, who comes from a family of storytellers, grew up in the south-west of Ireland and has been telling stories for over 60 years.
He has inherited hundreds of stories from his father and grandmother.
He tells stories in Gaelic, English and French, having lived in Quebec for 30 years.
ROBERT BOUTHILLIER - 11:15 p.m.: ‘Tales from the depths of the camp’
In the current movement to revive narrative forms, some storytellers present stories as they are, in the spirit and form that have allowed them to be passed down through the ages. This is the case for Robert Bouthillier, who had the opportunity to meet dozens of storytellers from the older generation of farmers, fishermen and lumberjacks as part of his ethnographic research on oral traditions in Quebec and Acadia. Beyond the impressive repertoire he has amassed, his collection work has allowed him to nurture his practice of the oral aesthetics of traditional storytellers, of which he is now the custodian and continuator.
