Now home to the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis and the Faculty of Science, the Valrose Park was built between 1867 and 1870 at the request of Baron Von Derwies, a Russian railway magnate.
It took 800 workers under the orders of 4 architects to build the castle and all the talent of the Nice gardener Joseph Carlès to develop the 10 hectares that still constitute the Valrose park today.
