The Signadour gateway (or porte du guetteur in Provençal) dates back to the 13th century. During the Revolution, it lost its majestic watchtower crown. Designed to keep an eye on the horizon in times of trouble, the tower became useless in 1789 and, what's more, ‘insulted revolutionary equality’.
