A major venue for traditional local festivals (chestnut festival, grape harvest festival, stockfish, house in bloom competition, etc.), this square is also home to the cultural centre, originally a bakery whose old oven has been preserved intact.
This square is also the centre of the village, which was redesigned in the 15th century in the shape of a quadrilateral to accommodate 12 families who came from Oneglia (in present-day Italy) to repopulate this land that had been abandoned and devastated by war and disease. The history of the village is explained in detail on 13 explanatory panels dotted around the village. Two specimens are on display in the Place de la Fontaine.
