Last vestige of the fortifications built in the 12th century. This name is explained by the architectural type of closure of the post office "Sarrasine" which means "with a harrow", it was closed with wooden planks.
Muginum, now Mougins, was founded in the first century before our era at the top of a rocky peak 260 meters above sea level, along the route of the Via Aurelia, which connected Rome to Arles. In 1056, Guillaume de Gauceron, Count of Antibes, donated this village to the Abbey of Lérins, and until the eve of the French Revolution in 1789, its history remained closely linked to that of the abbey.
During the Middle Ages, the village was fortified. Its spiral shape, ramparts, and three gates—of which only the Sarrazine Gate remains today—made it a strategic stronghold, despite the many military attacks that marked its history.
