Like Brachychiton roseus, populneus is a member of the Sterculiaceae family, but with off-white or even pale yellow flowers and more elongated leaves than roseus, which are flatter and have dark pink flowers.

The presence of ten Brachychiton populneus in the Biovès gardens is due to Edouard André, a renowned French gardener and landscaper, who designed many parks and gardens, such as those of Monte Carlo, Euxinograd, Montevideo and Luxembourg, and to whom we owe the development of the public gardens of Menton, in 1899.
