Ficus rubiginosa, a member of the Moraceae family, is a common ornamental tree in eastern Australia where it originated, and can grow up to 15 meters high.
Ficus rubiginosa flowers all year round and its globular fruits, the syconiums, grow in pairs in the leaf axils and turn yellow at maturity.
It has an important role in the habitat and life of wildlife that needs a specific wasp - Pleistodontes imperialis - for the pollination and fertilization of its flowers.
