Olmediella betschleriana, native to Guatemala, is an evergreen tree of the Salicaceae family, which can reach 15 meters in height. It is the only tree of the Olmediella species.
Olmediella's flowers are unisexual and then develop into globular berries measuring 25-45 mm.
Although cultivated since the 1850s, it was not until 1932 that the origins of Olmediella betschleriana were discovered when it was identified and recorded in the wild in the mountains of Guatemala.
