300 metres from the Grimaldi caves some flint tools were discovered in the Maria Serena garden, which is owned by the town of Menton. It is thought that they date back to the Epipaleolithic period and are approximately 12 000 years old. The hunters of the Epipaleolithic, who took shelter in the Grimaldi caves, walked across the present site of garden of the Maria Serena villa where they used to collect and cut flintstone.
At 300 meters from the caves of Grimaldi, flint tools were fortuitously discovered in 2012 in the garden of the villa Maria Serena, property of the city of Menton. An archaeological survey carried out in 2013 made it possible to recognize the sedimentary level of origin of these prehistoric objects. It is a deposit formed from the erosion of land located in Italian territory, upstream of the gorges of the torrent Saint-Louis. This river marks the Franco-Italian border near the seaside....
