For old and young alike, we take you through the Côte d’Azur to discover these unusual activities! Here are our Top 5 unusual family walks on the Côte d’Azur!

1 – Planetary hike along the Sentier Planétaire in Valberg!

After a good summer (or winter) tree climbing or tobogganing, walk the planetary path to Valberg – it’s unique in Europe. All year round, this easy pathway takes you on a walk to discover astronomy and all the planets, with a breathtaking view of the Mercantour national park, the Cians gorges and the Var valley. Lots of educational contemplative or relaxing stops along the way punctuate the route. An idea for an unusual family hike between heaven and earth on the Côte d’Azur!

2 – A breath of sea air on the Route du Sel in Hyères!

This is a must-do family walk on the Côte d’Azur! Every year, from November to the Easter holidays, the Route du Sel in Hyères is pedestrianized. On foot, by bike, rollerblading, skateboarding or scooters, the 4 km of coastline along the beautiful Almanarre beach, await you for a delightful family walk. Take the opportunity to stop on the beach and enjoy the mild winter and perhaps even fly your kite. Thanks to the various promontories punctuating the route you’ll be able to watch the birds in the Salins des Peschiers with your children.
There are car parks at each end of the route.

3 – Water walking in the Estérel!

The Pointe de l’Aiguille in Théoule-sur-Mer and Cap Dramont overlooking the Ile d’Or, are natural gems on the Côte d’Azur. Go with your family for a water walk, armed with you flippers, mask and snorkel. The unsuspected seabed will reveal itself to you in all the glory of its colourful flora and a fauna! The underwater trail on the Pointe de l’Aiguille will allow you to observe and recognize the fauna and flora found in the shallower waters of the Mediterranean. The route is marked by four large white numbered buoys. Waterproof « aquaguide » leaflets are available from the Tourist Office and emergency stations.

4 – Journey back in time with the Train des Pignes steam train!

To travel through time enjoy a unique outing and discover the hills around Nice on an authentic steam locomotive. Welcome to the old train station: the Train des Pignes embarks travellers in an incredible atmosphere, and then the station master whistles for departure! On board its century-old carriages travelling between Puget-Théniers and Annot with a stop in the medieval town of Entrevaux, enjoy a historic outing that everyone will love!

5 – Voyage to the centre of the Earth in Grotte de Saint-Cézaire!

This time, we’re off to the centre of the Earth… For a caving trip! Not far from Grasse, the Grotte de Saint-Cézaire opens its bowels 40 meters below the ground. A series of cavities full of minerals will make your head spin. The Saint-Cézaire caves offer the fabulous spectacle of subterranean riches: majestic draperies, grandiose stalactites, concretions, a fluorescent cascade and sound show on musical stalactites. Guided tours and sound and light shows on the program, it’s an unforgettable trip for all the family.
