5 Amazing trail on the Côte d'Azur

As you probably already know, the Côte d’Azur is my favourite place! Today, I share my top routes, small hidden wonders and great classics; this article will make you want to put on your running shoes! Here are my 5 favourite running trails on the Côte d’Azur.

Côte d’Azur Trail 1: Admire the sunset…

…from Pic de Courmettes!

Pic de Courmettes offers one of the most beautiful 360 degree panoramas over the Côte d’Azur. The climb is difficult and steep, but the result will be worth all your effort! This 6 km trail and its 400 meter climb starting from the Domaine de Courmettes begins gently on the ruins of Jas de l’Éouvière. Then, the slope becomes steeper as you enter the oak forest.

Côte d’Azur Trail 1: Admire the sunset…

…from Pic de Courmettes!

Little by little, the trees become scarcer and you’ll find yourself in a large meadow. In front of you all the Côte d’Azur – from Cap Ferrat to Estérel. On the other side, the vertiginous Gorges du Loup, but also the famous Cheiron, and on a clear day, the whole Mercantour chain of mountains! This is one of my favourite views on the Côte d’Azur – and one of my favourite places for admiring the sunset or spending the night under canvas.

Côte d’Azur Trail 2: try a bird’s eye view of Monaco!

One of the most beautiful views of the Principality of Monaco…

This trail, departing from La Turbie, will offer you one of the most beautiful views of Monaco. Discover the famous « Tête de Chien » (dog’s head). And don’t forget your camera! This short 7 kilometre and 400 m climb begins in the village of La Turbie, on the way to La Batterie. After a good descent to Monaco, you will pass the famous Loubière climbing site: take the opportunity to admire the climbers at work!

Côte d’Azur Trail 2: try a bird’s eye view of Monaco!

One of the most beautiful views of the Principality of Monaco…

The ascent will take you directly to the famous « Tête de Chien ».
Admire the landscape from this incredible balcony suspended above the sea: below, the Monaco Rock and the harbour, the incessant coming and going of helicopters over this busy city, and at the bottom, Cap Martin in Roquebrune.

Côte d’Azur Trail 3: Get a breath of fresh air in Cap-Ferrat!

The beauty of this coastal path around the popular tourist destination of Cap Ferrat makes it one of the most well-known and frequented on the Côte d’Azur.
Indulge yourself on this beautiful 10 kilometre loop with an almost 300 m climb. There are also 3 fountains: really lovely!
Enjoy this beautiful coastal path overlooking the turquoise coves, walk along the most beautiful beaches on the coast, climb to the lighthouse, a listed historical monument, admire the peninsula’s jagged rocks, and end your outing in a small restaurant on the picturesque harbour in Cap Ferrat.

Côte d’Azur Trail 4: Climb the vertiginous Saint-Jeannet escarpment!

802 meters above sea level, the Baou de Saint-Jeannet is a famous place on the Côte d’Azur for both trail running and climbing. The Provençal word baou, means « rocky crag »: you’ll quickly understand why! You’ll be wowed by this 10 kilometre trail with an almost 600 m climb. But remember the Baous have to be earned: the climb is steep and only the most experienced will manage to run the whole distance. Nevertheless you’ll reap the rewards of your efforts with the incredible view over the small village of Saint-Jeannet and the entire coast from Cap Ferrat to Cap d’Antibes! On the descent don’t miss the Castellet ruins that are witness to occupation during Middle Ages.

Côte d’Azur Trail 5: Get away from it in the heart of the Estérel!

Astonishing colours, the Massif de l’Estérel is a wonderful playground.

There are lots of different paths, the routes are well marked and maps show the paths. My little pleasure? Losing myself among the red rocks!
Set off on this beautiful, rather challenging, Côte d’Azur trail running route. There’s no doubt you’ll love the breathtaking views: on one side, the Baie de Cannes and its famous Iles Lérins and on the other side the Baie de Fréjus and in the distance the Massif des Maures.

Côte d’Azur Trail 5: Get away from it in the heart of the Estérel (continued)!

I love this 16 kilometre trail with its 700 m climb because it can be easily shortened: you can turn around at the Col de la Cadière if you need to. In addition, there’s a bit of everything with all types of terrain: wide dirt tracks, narrow single tracks, a bit of road. These easier sections will be perfect to give your ankles a rest between two technical sections!
