The beginning of the visit sets the tone: from the cultivation of perfume plants to marketing techniques, you will discover how the perfume is made. History of Grasse, Grasse flowers, olfactory quiz, digital customization of your bottle, it has everything! The visit continues with media areas (videos, exhibitions), which will lead you to the greenhouse, a beautiful olfactory garden where you’ll discover some of the raw materials most frequently used in perfumery.

A WONDERFUL OLFACTORY JOURNEY THROUGH TIME!

You’ll discover the history of perfumes throughout the ages – from ancient Egypt to the present day!

If you like history, during your visit to the Musée International de la Parfumerie (MIP) in Grasse you’ll find a complete floor dedicated to perfumery through the centuries. The MIP’s extraordinary collections will reveal some wonderful small items such as Marie Antoinette’s travel necessities: an absolutely incredible object you just have to see! The museum has varied the educational materials so that everyone can enjoy the visit at their own pace. Then head to the basement to discover the scientific aspects of perfumery (extraction techniques for essences, synthetic molecules and more) and finish your visit in the shop!

DISCOVERING THE GREENHOUSE AT THE PERFUMERY MUSEUM

Multiple fragrances awaken your senses!

The greenhouse at the Musée International de la Parfumerie is one of my favourite parts of the museum. The extracted essential oils come from different parts of the plant: roots, leaves, flowers, wood… Discover some very exotic materials such as vetiver, vanilla, sandalwood and patchouli and with the map of the world, you’ll know where your favourite essences come from. What’s more there are olfactory boxes in front of each plant used in perfume so you can smell the extracted essence. The greenhouse is worth visiting at different times of the year to the see different blooms.

« KID-FRIENDLY » MUSEUM

A fun visit with lots of interactive games!

The Musée International de la Parfumerie is « kid-friendly » with fun and educational facilities to educate children about the world of perfumery. Your children will be able to smell the essences thanks to the olfactory devices or use the digital terminals to do the quizzes. During the school holidays the MIP organizes numerous workshops to stimulate the children’s olfactory system and imagination. They’ll learn how to create a mysterious aroma, make scented bath salts, eau de toilette and even learn how to cook the traditional orange blossom “navettes”. Your children will become budding perfumers!

Introduction to perfumed yoga!

Every Wednesday from 12:15 pm to 1:15 pm, visitors to the Musée International de la Parfumerie can book a « perfumed yoga » session. In addition to the classic yoga (postures, meditation, breathing exercises and concentration), a smell is associated with each course with an essential oil or scented oil to give you a unique and unforgettable sensory experience.
