Visit Antibes, the Mediterranean city

Bordered by the Mediterranean, the town of Antibes brilliantly blends a gentle way of life with cultural visits. Take a stroll through the narrow streets and ramparts built by Vauban, and discover Antibes’ hidden treasures: museums, markets and sea-scented walks. Enhance your stay in one of the must-visit towns on the Côte d’Azur with our ideas for visits.

1. Visit the heart of Old Antibes

Head for the old town to get in tune with the Côte d’Azur rhythm. Here, warmth and friendliness are the watchwords, soak up the local colours and visit the Provencal market.

Fish, fruit and vegetables, traditional dishes and local artisans: succumb to the flavours of the Mediterranean as you stroll through the stalls of this typical market. It’s open every morning in summer and from Tuesday to Sunday the rest of the year. With your basket full and the sun at its zenith, it’s time to head home and enjoy your finds!

Take a detour down rue du Saint-Esprit and you’ll come across the Chapelle Saint-Esprit d’Antibes and the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de l’Immaculée Conception. Two ochre-coloured monuments well worth a visit!

2. Marvel at the Musée Picasso

The façade of the Musée Picasso sets the scene: art, views and cachet. At the gateway to old Antibes by the sea, in the Grimaldi castle, the museum dedicated to the artist Picasso blends in with the white stones of the ramparts!

Whether you choose to visit on your own or with a guide, the works of Picasso, Nicolas de Staël, César and Modigliani will hold no secrets for you.

The advantage of a guide? Learn more about the context in which the works were created and the link between the artists and the town of Antibes.

Don’t leave the museum too quickly! The visit to the museum continues outside the stone walls, on its pretty panoramic terrace, where you can admire a painting combining azure blue and a sculpture by Mirò. You’ll leave with stars in your eyes!

The Picasso Museum is not the only art centre in town!

To continue your artistic visits, here are a few museums not to be missed:

3. Overlook the town at Fort Carré

At 43 metres high, the 16th-century Fort Carré is a must-see during your stay in Antibes. A monument steeped in history, it will give you all the keys you need to unlock the city’s secrets!
of the town!

The good news is that, because of its small size, the Fort can be visited by small groups (no more than ten people). It’s a great way to enjoy a privileged visit. Your guide will take you into the chapel, the kitchens and the soldiers’ bedrooms.

The highlight? The tour ends at the top of the fort’s ramparts, with a 360° view of the Mediterranean and the town of Antibes in the background!

As the sun sets, the Port Vauban at the foot of the Fort invites you to take a stroll along the waterfront, between typical sailboats and posh boats.

4. Climb up to the famous Chapelle de la Garoupe

To round off your visit to Antibes in style, why not take in one of the most beautiful views in the region? To get there, take the forest-lined Calvary path and climb up to the Garoupe plateau. Panoramic views of the Mediterranean, the coastline of Cannes and Nice: breathe, you’ve arrived!

Can you see the Garoupe lighthouse? It’s one of the most powerful lighthouses on the Côte d’Azur, with a luminous intensity of over 2 million candelas!

Next stop is the sanctuary of La Garoupe, home to the famous Chapelle de Notre-Dame de la Garoupe, a listed historic monument. Dating from the late Middle Ages, the building consists of a tower, the chapel of Notre-Dame de la Garde and that of Sainte-Hélène. While some believe it to be the most beautiful chapel in the world, it is nonetheless one of Antibes’ heritage gems!

To make the most of this idyllic setting, the menu on the terrace of the Plateau café includes Pissaladière, Niçois stuffing and pan bagnat! Certified Perfect Moment!
