Ice cream parlours in Nice: where can you find the best ice creams in Nice?

Tell me, what are the best ice creams in Nice? I’m not really into sweets… But there’s one exception that proves the rule: ice creams. I have a passion for these cold wonders that I eat in summer and winter alike. Follow my frosty footsteps to find the best ice-cream parlours in Nice!

FENOCCHIO MASTER ICE-CREAM MAKER

A master ice-cream maker from Nice who has been reigning over flavours since 1966…

It’s hard to talk about the best ice creams in Nice without mentioning Fenocchio, a veritable local institution nestling in the heart of Vieux-Nice.

For several generations, this family-run business has been delighting the taste buds with an impressive range of flavours – over 90! – ranging from timeless classics (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry) to more daring creations (lavender, thyme, tomato-basil, beer or cactus).

The quality of the raw materials and the respect for traditional techniques have made Fenocchio famous far beyond the borders of Nice. The light, intensely fruity sorbets are pure marvels, as are the creamy, delicate ice creams.

NERON GLACIER

A pastry chef conquered by the cold in Nice…

Louis Dubois is no ordinary ice-cream maker. Pastry chef at the Ritz Fauchon, head pastry chef for Pierre Gagnaire, then head chef of his own restaurant in Nice, he is now offering us the chance to enjoy his creations in his new showcase, an ice cream and pastry shop in the heart of Vieux-Nice.

The ice creams are made using only the finest ingredients: Tahitian vanilla, Michel Cluizel chocolate, hazelnuts from a small Piedmontese producer and fresh local fruit! And of course, the cones are homemade!

For those with a sweet tooth, why not try one of our sublime pastries?

GELATERIA GARIBALDI

An ice-cream maker from Nice, in heart and soul…

There are no unusual mixes here, just twenty or so traditional flavours that are sure-fire favourites. A fine mastery of sweetness, quality raw materials: fruit purées, 100% Italian hazelnut or pistachio paste, fresh fruit sometimes even from the family garden. The ice creams and sorbets are made in the traditional way by Loris Gallo from Nice.

Note that the granites are exquisite! The peach and strawberry – only in season – are to die for!
You can also try verrines, iced pralines and ice cakes, and the milkshakes are famous. An ice cream parlour not to be missed in Nice.

ARLEQUIN CÉSAR

The art of Italian gelateria at its finest in Nice!

The range of flavours in these artisan ice creams is highly inventive. You’ll enjoy rare flavours (baobab, cactus) and original blends (saffron, rose water, pistachio burst or crispy choux, milk flower, chocolate ganache). The creaminess is perfect, a testament to the Transalpine know-how of Roberto Francia, the master ice-cream maker. Most of the sorbets are made with fresh fruit – some with stevia – while the ice creams are made with the finest selected products. To extend the pleasure at home, think of their sublime ice cream cakes.

AZZURRO GLACIER

Savoyard know-how in Nice!

The culture of good ice cream is not the privilege of the Italians alone. Since 1983 in Savoie and since 1996 in Nice, the Veyrat family have been sharing their expertise and the delicious flavours of their home-made ice creams, including some original tastes: Italian Lover (hazelnut, white chocolate ganache, pistachio), crème brulée and lemon tart. These colourful flavours are enhanced by a good mastery of sugar – if, like me, you’re sensitive to sugar, you’ll appreciate this – and good basic products. Even the cones are homemade on the premises, and that makes all the difference!

MERAVIGLIA SICILIANA

A Sicilian-style ice cream parlour to discover in Nice!

As a native of Nice, I tend to think that our Gratta Keka is the best granita in the world, but I have to admit that the ‘siciliana’ remains the Rolls Royce of its kind. And here, the many flavours on offer are excellent: almond, lemon, coffee, chocolate, mint, orange… As for the ice creams, the choice is admittedly limited, but very good. Don’t hesitate, do as the Sicilians do and try “il gelato” with the brioche, which also comes from Sicily! There are also some very good cannoli for connoisseurs, some of which are suitable for vegans.

PECCATI DI GOLA

A traditional ice cream parlour to discover in Nice!

This traditional gelateria is run by an artisan from Turin who is passionate about his craft and generous with his portions! Once again, quality raw materials are used to create a wide range of flavours. A speciality to try: Cuban coffee. And the chocolate ice cream, made with fresh cream, is a real highlight! Cakes and ice lollies are also on offer. A pleasant stop off the usual urban tourist trails, at the gateway to Nice’s beautiful Musiciens district. There’s no seating here, so why not take a seat on a bench in the neighbouring Alsace Lorraine garden?

THE BEST ICE CREAMS IN NICE!

By Jean-Marc NOBILE

Photographer, magazine editor, communications consultant, TV commentator, but above all, a native of Nice who loves his region and wants people to discover it beyond the usual, often simplistic, clichés. For me, the Côte d’Azur is a land of authenticity, contrary to popular belief, and that’s where I draw my inspiration from!
