A chef who preferred the world of stars, a family adventure…

Pierre Altobelli ran the star-studded ovens of France’s greatest chefs before earning his macaron in the famous red guide in Osaka. His love of his Nice roots took over when his mother, who ran the restaurant set up by his grandmother Davia, decided to stop. There was no way he was going to let this family history disappear! Back to his roots for this prodigious son, who delivers, with talent and simplicity, an exquisite menu with Liguro-Nicois accents: marinated anchovies, ratatouille and its perfect egg, stockfish, Niçois farcis (with lamb shoulder and sweetbreads, please!), barbajuans… Everything is perfectly mastered in this Nicois restaurant! And what about the desserts, like the Menton lemon tart or the chard pie!

RESTAURANT LA MERENDA – NICE

A former Michelin-starred chef at the service of Niçoise cuisine…

Dominique Lestanc, two-starred chef at Le Negresco, used to sit down at this charmingly simple restaurant before… buying it! His decision to leave the world of the stars 22 years ago surprised the entire profession. Since then, he’s always been happy to wander the aisles of the Cours Saleya in search of good local produce. It’s this close relationship with the raw materials that motivates him to work hard at the stove, taking his time and lovingly creating what he calls “a woman’s cuisine”: pesto pastry, stockfish, stuffed sardines, daube or tripe à la niçoise, tarte de menton (pissaladière without anchovies), tourte de blettes…

LA CAVE DE LA TOUR – NICE

An emblematic place in Old Nice where the “Nissart” spirit still lives on…

Jean-Philippe Gazan took over the cellar created by his grandfather in 1947. One of the last places where you can still enjoy “la Merenda”, the local morning snack. It’s a place full of charm, with its old counter and stainless steel vats, where the regulars tease each other in true Nice style… When it comes to cooking, organic food is preferred and local produce is a must! You can enjoy stockfish, tripe à la niçoise, pissaladière and real little stuffed sausages from Nice… Not forgetting trulle (black pudding from Nice) or truccia (chard omelette). You’ll also find the largest selection of local wines in Nice. A great address that’s 100% Nissart!

RESTAURANT A BUTHEGINN’A – NICE

The temple of “family” Niçoise cuisine…

“Chez les filles”, as many call this little restaurant, is all about sincere eating. Sophie, the chef, was introduced to Niçoise cuisine by her mother, a true purist! Seasonality is a religion here. Every morning, it’s on the Cours Saleya, at local producers’, that “the girls” unearth the ingredients for an authentic menu: chickpea soup, couaieta (thin slices of beef stuffed with chard), Capouns (stuffed cabbage), petit farcis, barbajuan, truccia, trulle, savoury or sweet chard pie. The whole arsenal of Nissarde cuisine is represented in this restaurant!

RESTAURANT LA SOCCA D’OR – NICE

A socca in the pure tradition of Nice: soft, crispy and golden brown!

She’s the queen of the place! Fréderic Parola makes what is surely the best socca on the Côte d’Azur. And don’t stop there, because the Socca d’Or is a neighbourhood restaurant that has become, over the years, one of the best places to eat in Nice: pistou soup, peppers in oil, pissaladière, pan bagnat (with homemade bread), and so on.
