Become part of the legend of the Marathon des Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes: come and take up the challenge on 9 November 2025!

For theMarathon des Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes, come and run the 42.195km in the shortest possible time.

A legendary foot race, the marathon is held every year between Nice and Cannes.

On the programme: 42.195km of pure pleasure on the Côte d’Azur between sea and mountains, with a start on the famous Promenade des Anglais and an exceptional finish on La Croisette. Since its creation, with over 175,000 runners registered and 70 nations represented at the start over all the distanceson offer, the Marathon des Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes has attracted thousands of competitors from the four corners of the globe, thanks to the beauty of its landscapes and its climate, and is now one of the biggest marathons in France.

DIFFERENT OPTIONS FOR A 5* MARATHON ON THE CÔTE D’AZUR

The Marathon des Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes is not just for experienced runners. The event is open to all competitors, with or without a licence, born in 2005 and before.

Whatever your running experience or objectives, in addition to theclassic “Marathon” event, you can opt for the “2×21.1 km” option, giving each of you the chance to run a half-marathon between Nice and Cannes (Nice/Antibes – Antibes/Cannes).

Run the first part of the course with the Nice-Villeneuve-Loubet 20 km! You’ll start the Marathon des Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes alongside the marathon runners and finish your race opposite the famous Baie des Anges Marina!

Opt for the Marathon Relay (from 3 km to 10.8 km) with a team of 3 to 6 runners. The 6-a-side event is open to both licensed and non-licensed competitors born in 2009 and before. Everyone can enjoy the marathon festival at their own pace, with distances to suit everyone!

Finally, the Handisport Run: disabled athletes will set off a few minutes earlier from the Promenade des Anglais in Nice and follow the same route as the other competitors to reach Cannes and its legendary Croisette.

And let’s not forget the Breakfast Run! Every year, on the eve of the race, the Breakfast Run brings together between 200 and 300 runners for a final training session on the famous Promenade des Anglais.

Your race number will act as your ticket, giving you unlimited access to TER SNCF trains all day on 9 November 2025, between Nice and Cannes, in both directions!

WHERE IS THE Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes MARATHON?

The Marathon des Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes runs from Nice to Cannes. It passes through a number of towns on the Côte d’Azur between the sea and the palm trees. The start is on the legendary Promenade des Anglais in Nice. The finish is on the no less famous Boulevard de la Croisette in Cannes. In all, 42.195km, 173m ascent +, 95% by the Mediterranean Sea. The race is run in a maximum of 6 hours and is held every year at the end of October/beginning of November.

The race route passes through 7 emblematic towns in the Alpes-Maritimes department: Nice, Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Villeneuve-Loubet, Antibes Juan les-Pins, Vallauris Golfe-Juan and Cannes:

Nice is the capital of the Côte d’Azur, with its famous Promenade des Anglais running along the Bay of Angels;
Saint-Laurent-du-Var, nestling between the sea and the green hills, is an authentic and sporty marina;
Cagnes-sur-Mer, a seaside resort on the Côte d’Azur, famous for its racecourse;
Villeneuve-Loubet, capital of gastronomy and home of Auguste Escoffier, is an ideal base for discovering the Côte d’Azur’s Moyen-Pays region;
Antibes-Juan-les-Pins is an ancient city with an exceptional heritage that is a must-see;
Vallauris Golfe-Juan, capital of ceramics and pottery, is a traditional town that has welcomed Napoleon, Picasso and Jean Marais;
Cannes, the finish town, is the capital of cinema, but also boasts an exceptional heritage. Not to be missed: the Lérins Islands.

Who can take part?

The events are open to both licence-holders and non-licence-holders:

Born in 2005 and before, for the marathon;
Born in 2007 and before, for the 2-person marathon;
Born in 2007 and before for the 20km;
Born in 2009 and before for a 6-person relay;
Born in 2007 and before, for a 5-person relay;
Born in 2007 and before for a 4-person relay;
Born in 2005 and before for a 3-way relay.

The Marathon, the ultimate race, is included in the official calendar of the French Athletics Federation: by taking part, you can therefore qualify for the French Championships. However, as this is a competition, athletes must present :

  • an FFA licence (Athlé Compétition, Athlé Entreprise, Athlé Running de la FFA, pass J’aime courir) ;
  • a sports licence from an approved federation stating that they are not contraindicated in practising athletics in competition;
  • a medical certificate stating that there are no contraindications to running in competition.
  • It is possible to run the marathon in pairs, each athlete covering 21.1 km, with a changeover at Antibes-Juan-les-Pins. Finally, the marathon relay is an à la carte formula, introduced in 2010, offering distances to suit everyone, from 3 to 10 km. Five relay points are set up along the route, allowing teams to take it in turns. Teams can be made up of between 3 and 6 runners, each taking part only once, possibly over several consecutive sections.

Each participant receives a number personalised with his or her first name and number, a T-shirt, a rucksack and a vintage medal.

Records and achievements

The record for the Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes marathon is held in 2018 by Millaw Abrha, with a time of 2 h 07 min 25 sec.

On the women’s side, Radiya Roba, who set a record of 2 h 30 min in 2010, was dethroned by Zenebu Fikadu, who lowered the record to 2 h 28 min 15 sec in 2022.

Both athletes hail from Ethiopia.

The largest number of participants was recorded in 2014, with 14,100 people at the start on the Promenade des Anglais. In 2020, the event was replaced by a connected marathon, due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

The first Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes marathon was held in November 2008, with around 10,000 participants. It was won by Kenyan runner Jacob Kitur in 2 hours 11 minutes.
