In summer, the heat hits the Côte d’Azur. The locals have a natural cool solution: take a dip in fresh water rivers on the Côte d’Azur – choose from among the thirty streams, lakes and rivers the destination offers! Places that are also great for seasoned swimmers in the low season… Here is our selection of the most beautiful river bathing sites on the Côte d’Azur.

LES MARMITES DE LA BOLLÈNE – VÉSUBIE VALLEY

A beautiful emerald green bathing site: head to the Vésubie valley…

 

For lovers of canyoning, this bathing site on the Côte d’Azur has a waterfall that turns into a giant 15 meter slide! In Vésubie valley, on the road to the famous Col de Turini, you will find an emerald pool in the shape of a big pot. Les Marmites de la Bollène are among the must-visit swimming places on the Côte d’Azur.

How to get there: from La Bollène-Vésubie, continue along the D70 towards Col de Turini. Go past Chapelle Saint-Honorat and park a kilometre further on.

LA LAUNE DE L’ÉLÉPHANT – VÉSUBIE VALLEY

A remarkable natural bathing site… You will love the crystal clear water!

 

It owes its name to the rock in the shape of an elephant, plunging his trunk into this natural pool. Not far from Saint-Colomban, still in the Vésubie valley, whitened stones polished by time coil around this lake which creates a lovely private feel.

How to get there: From Nice, drive towards Plan du Var and take the Route de la Vésubie to the right. After driving 25min in an exceptional setting, turn right. At the next intersection follow the direction of Saint-Colomban – Camari. 2km further on, climb up and descend into Elephant Lagoon.

LES RIVES DU LOUP – VALLÉE DU LOUP

This bathing site takes its name from the 55 hectares of the regional park which surrounds it and the Loup, a small coastal river that is sometimes a torrent and rises in the Préalpes de Grasse. Leaving the village of Bar-sur-Loup, the luxuriant vegetation is revealed on a quiet bank with beautiful pebbles.

How to get there: From La Colle-sur-Loup, take the D6 towards Bar-sur-Loup / Grasse. At the traffic lights at the end of the village, take a small road on the left. The car park is at the end.

L’OASIS DE PLANFAE

A 100% Côte d’Azur bathing site in a wild countryside setting!

 

A pebble beach, in the middle of nowhere among the wild plants and peace and quiet of this cold and limpid water – a very special place. Spilling from the brook of the same name, Planfae has plenty of routes suitable for canyoning; it rises from a spring in Paillon de Contes.

How to get there: Take the D15 in the Vallée du Paillon and cross the villages of Contes and Bendejun before arriving at Coaraze. Continue on the Saint-Roch pass, and when passing the road leading to the Hameau de L’Engarvin count 7km before parking near the bridge. You can then descend to the river.

LES GORGES DE LA ROUDOULE

A beautiful place for swimming with sunny flat stone slabs, ideal for relaxing on the Côte d’Azur…

 

These flat stones are a curiosity around Puget-Theniers. It is a succession of lakes with smooth pleasant slabs that slow down the steep Roudoule gorges, where you can take a dip in sunny tranquillity.

How to get there: From Puget-Théniers, follow the direction of Puget-Rostang then La Croix-sur-Roudoule on the departmental road D16. At the sight of the point suspended 90 m above the gorges, continue for 800 meters and park before the shed. You have arrived ! Descend into the Gorges de la Roudoule and take advantage of this lovely cool spot.
