Conference led by Jésugnon Sohoume, doctoral student at the Institute for Radioprotection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN).
From the 1st century BC, the Romans built a series of port structures all around the Mediterranean basin (Italy, Crete, etc.) using mortar based on lime and pozzolan. Today, some parts of these ports are still visible. Through this conference, I explain how the ongoing research at IRSN aims to monitor the physicochemical evolution of these mortars to better predict the long-term aging of modern concrete.
