In 1986, Jean-Pierre Blanc, then a student, created the first European Salon for Young Designers in his home town. The Hyères Festival aims to encourage and promote the work of young designers in the fields of fashion, photography and fashion accessories.
Each year, at the Villa Noailles, the festival is organized around three competitions, exhibitions and round-table discussions. The competitions bring together ten stylists (since 1986), ten photographers (since 1997) and ten accessory designers (since 2017), selected by juries of professionals.
The creations of the selected candidates are presented in the form of fashion shows for the fashion competition at the Hangar de la Mouture in La Capte, and collective exhibitions for the photography and accessories competitions.
Designers, journalists, style bureau managers, ministry representatives and major brand managers all support this initiative.
Some of the major designers discovered at the Festival: Viktor & Rolf, Gaspard Yurkievitch, Sébastien Meunier, Christian Wijnants, Henrik Vibskov, Richard René, Felipe Oliveira Baptista, Romain Kremer, Julien Dossena, Anthony Vaccarello, Tuomas Laitinen, Jean-Paul Lespagnard, Satu Maaranen, Kenta Matsushige, Louis-Gabriel Nouchi, Rolf Ekroth, Clara Daguin, Marine Serre, Botter, Ester Manas, Róisín Pierce, Ifeanyi Okwuadi, Igor Dieryck.
The same goes for photography, which was won for the first time in 1997 by Camille Vivier. Cécile Bortoletti, Olivier Amsellem and Sølve Sundsbo follow. The winners collaborate with the Villa Noailles, which commissions series for festivals and dedicates exhibitions to them.
