Route in the heart of the Mercantour National Park, forest then very mineral and frequented by hordes of ibex.
- The hike starts 2 km after the hamlet of Castérino, at marker 394. You enter the Parc du Mercantour towards the Valmasque valley.
- After about half an hour on the forest track, take the path on the right, tag 393, direction Agnel Lake, cross the torrent and start climbing the Agnel valley.
- After about 2h30 of ascent where you will gradually leave the larches in favor of arid and mineral landscapes, you will finally see the lake.
- The beaches around the lake are perfect for picnics (and a nap?).

Variation for experienced hikers: On the northern edge of the lake there is a path that will take you to Pas de l'Agnel. Allow 45 minutes to go.

Tourist Info: The successive peaks to the north form the border with Italy: Scandallière, Vernasque and Agnel. This place was part of the hunting reserve of the last Italian rulers.
