Andromaque

Orestes loves Hermione, who loves Pyrrhus, who loves Andromache, who loves Hector… who is dead. Against the backdrop of an international political crisis, a back-and-forth takes place where each person is confronted with their own desires, where the fragile balance between duty, power, and free will threatens to be disrupted at every moment. What are we willing to lose to obtain what we desire? The stakes are always twofold and reversible: something is gained and lost at every moment.

Laurent Grappe's direction strives to recreate the issues that constitute the narrative framework of this story, in their rawest, most concrete dimension, in an aesthetic deliberately refined and devoid of bombast. Poetry is elsewhere: in an open form where the audience, located around the stage, is taken to witness the events it is witnessing, and becomes a full partner in the performance. In the musical composition, improvised in real time, which invites itself into the debates and surprises the performers in the accomplishment of the destinies they are responsible for crossing. In a form in perpetual evolution which escapes control and restores in the moment what art owes to the living.
