The gateway to the extreme north-east of the Mercantour National Park, Casterino is a small preserved paradise with an exceptional panorama: at the foot of the magnificent Fontanalbe valley, which opens up rapidly, the hamlet is in the immediate vicinity of the departures for the valleys of Les Merveilles (4 m), and Valmasque (2 km). The gentle plateau is to be discovered in every season: in May-June-July with the explosion of the flora, in October for the reddish colour of its larches, in winter with its white coat where the hamlet comes alive around its Nordic centre... It is the starting point for numerous hikes (Ourne and Peirefique falls on the eastern side, the Park and the three valleys to the west, the Sabion pass on the Italian border which gently closes the valley...)
