In Cogolin, a first parish church is attested as early as 1079, but in the absence of archaeological remains, it is not known where this place of worship was located. The current building, dating from the 15th and 16th centuries, is dedicated to Saint Sauveur and Saint Etienne. Its construction required the use of basalt, a grey-black honeycombed lava stone extracted from quarries in the Cogolin area.

The interior of the church is extremely sober. The semicircular nave dates from the first half of the 15th century, while the side aisles were built in stages in the first half of the 16th century, as evidenced by the year 1531 on the keystone of the fourth bay, followed by the year 1550 in the 2nd bay. The apse of the choir is a cul-de-sac.

Its furnishings are remarkable. Several works are listed as Monuments Historiques, including the triptych of Saint Anthony, Saint Eloi and Saint Pons, painted on wood, and the polychrome marble high altar, all dating from the 17th century. The side aisle contains contemporary works of art.
