Presented at Villa Paloma during the summer of 2025, the exhibition "Coco Chanel's Roaring Twenties" explores Gabrielle Chanel's abundant production in the specific context of the Côte d'Azur in the 1920s.
Drawing on a selection of emblematic textile creations and works of art from the decade, it pays tribute to the resolutely visionary nature of Chanel's approach to inventing the "new woman". Bringing together over two hundred objects, it features an original dialogue between thirty models and accessories by Gabrielle Chanel and forty works by modern artists, including Kees Van Dongen, Pablo Picasso, Marie Laurencin, Natalia Goncharova, Sonia Delaunay, Jean Cocteau, Mikhail Larionov, Alexandra Exter; as well as numerous photographs by Man Ray, Dora Kallmus, Edward Steichen and Roger Schall.
As an extension of this fertile dialogue between fashion and the visual arts, artist Chloé Royer (b. 1989) was invited to produce a body of work specially conceived for the exhibition. Her installations in bronze, glass and ceramics resonate with Chanel's creations, questioning contemporary representations of the female body while borrowing from the skills of fashion's craftsmen.
