In the harsh month of January 1731, three musician friends, passing through Leipzig, decided to push open the door of the famous Café Zimmermann, located on rue Sainte-Catherine.
This is where the Collegium Musicum, founded by Telemann and recently entrusted to a certain Johann Sebastian Bach, the newly appointed cantor of the nearby St. Thomas Church, regularly holds concerts. In town, everyone is talking about him and his musical prodigies.
The three companions are warmly welcomed by Herr Gottfried, the master of the house, who, with a smile, nevertheless informs them that no concert is planned that evening. No matter: if they feel like it, he adds, the shelves in the music room are full of scores ready to be displayed, promising to transform this cold winter evening into a moment of harmony and joyful complicity.
