As part of European Heritage Days, in collaboration with the Museum of History and Ceramics of Biot, presents: ‘Rescue of a fossilised tree trunk on the Dôme de Biot/Villeneuve Loubet’ by Brigitte Rollier, Geologist.
The fossilised tree trunk discovered several years ago near the entrance to the Natura 2000 Zone, Chemin des Aspres, in Biot, was in danger and required intervention. It was extracted on 6 May 2025 and deposited at the Biot Museum of History and Ceramics.
Located on the slopes of an ancient volcano composed of andesitic conglomerate (andesite and cinerite), it bears witness to the explosive activity that took place 27 million years ago. It constitutes a valuable heritage archive for the history of Biot and for the study of the silicification phenomena that occurred in this area.
This conference will be an opportunity to show the video report of the operation carried out in collaboration with the Biot History and Ceramics Museum and to recount the geological history of this region with the latest research carried out on this volcanic dome by the Géo Sites Alpes Azur association.
