Discover the life, work and spirituality of two exceptional nuns, in a fascinating encounter and screening.
With 2 authors in residence at the Saorge monastery: Alain Berlaud and Charlène Thévenier.
Hildegarde de Bingen (1098-1179) is a key figure of the Middle Ages. She was an abbess, writer, artist, botanist and music composer.
In her book "Scivias", she describes her visions, those of a Christian, erudite soul, combining faith and astronomical (or astrological) knowledge. In her "Symphonie de l'harmonie des révélations célestes", she composes monodic songs - in a single voice, sometimes accompanied by a drone - based on poetic texts freely inspired by the celestial world: that of angels, saints and the Creator.
Alain Berlaud is a musician, composer and researcher. In this illustrated and musical encounter-conference, he will discuss the works of Hildegarde de Bingen, through the links woven between her two productions, one purely literary and the other musical and sung.
Douceline de Digne (1214-1274) was another extraordinary woman and nun. Founder of a community of beguines in Hyères and another in Marseille, her story has been handed down to us through her "Vie de Sainte Douceline", written by her friends and spiritual daughters after her death. It describes the spirituality and community life of these women, which the Church sometimes supported and sometimes rejected over the years.
Douceline's teaching was essentially oral. It was often during ecstasies that she could be heard singing and giving teachings. These are the situations that the authors of her life have chosen to highlight.
Charlène Thévenier is a researcher at EHESS. She is currently working on a thesis, under the supervision of Sylvain Piron, entitled "Connaître par l'extase, savoir être bouleversé".
The evening will be followed by a time of exchange with the authors in residence, and a moment of conviviality!
