The conference ‘The Geological Treasures of Les Aspres’ presented by Brigitte Rollier, geologist, is organised by the Biot History and Ceramics Museum in partnership with the Géo Sites Alpes Azur association.
The Biot/Villeneuve Loubet dome conceals numerous geological curiosities such as silicified wood, opal nodules and cinerite deposits, all evidence of explosive volcanic activity dating back more than 28 million years (Tertiary period) which formed the Aspres relief. Of both scientific and heritage value, these features tell the ancient story that led to the formation of the Alps and the western Mediterranean.
