
From May 24 to September 28, the Musée Peynet et du Dessin humoristique welcomes a Belgian hero, Boerke, internationalized as Dickie.
This is only the second time since the museum opened its doors to cartoons in 1995 that it has welcomed comic strips.
After 2002, Dickie succeeded Asterix. A fine pedigree! Dickie is an odd fellow. He's a naive, well-meaning, clumsy little farmer who's involved in situations - misadventures, one might be tempted to say - that very often have an unhappy ending. Doesn't this remind you of a film character wearing a bowler hat and carrying a walking stick? Charlot?
Dickie's world is also well known to fans of Belgian comics, and he could be the not-so-distant cousin of Franquin's Gaston Lagaffe. "M'enfi n...".
Pieter De Poortere is a history buff. He goes through the great events of times gone by with his little farmer, and it's no coincidence that the artist grew up in the countryside.
