The church of Notre-Dame-d'Espérance is enthroned in the heart of Le Suquet. It was built in 1627, when the town had barely a thousand inhabitants!
Built at the top of Suquet, the Notre-Dame d'Espérance church was completed in 1641. Its work lasted more than a century and was constantly interrupted due to invasions or plague epidemics. Since that time, it has replaced the old Sainte-Anne chapel, then considered too small and now integrated into the Castre museum. A single nave with four bays framed by eight side chapels and a semi-circular choir constitute the bulk of its interior decoration. It stands out above all for its entrance portal and its bell tower erected as an extension of the facade on a postern of the old fortified enclosure of the castle.
