The Fort de l'Estissac is opening its doors free of charge for the European Heritage Days, dedicated to maritime heritage and sensitivity.
A guided tour will be offered on September 20 and 21 at 10:30 a.m., starting from the Maison de Parc National, then the fort can be visited freely from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Listed on the Inventaire Supplémentaire des Monuments Historiques, this fort originally consisted of a gun tower rising over 2 vaulted levels. It is characterized by its 5-pointed star-shaped enclosure.
Following the British occupation in 1793, part of the tower was destroyed. Under the Empire, the missing part was rebuilt on a square plan.
First declassified in 1885, the fort lost its military function when it became the property of the Parc national de Port-Cros in 1997.
Its position overlooking the north of the island offers a remarkable panorama of the Hyères roadstead.
Today, it hosts exhibitions open to the public during the summer months. During this time of year, free guided tours are organized from Tuesday to Sunday at 10:30 a.m., departing from the Maison de Parc, as well as self-guided tours from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. .
- A 20-minute walk from the village
- Estimated time for self-guided tour: approx. 30 min.
- Estimated time of guided tour: approx. 1h30
In the event of closure of the Îles d'Or massifs (including Port-Cros) due to fire risk, Fort de l'Estissac is not accessible.
