French artist Evelyne Ballestra was born in 1949 and studied painting in the south of France. She then moved to Switzerland, where she met her mentor, Rolf Dürig (1926-1985), a master of his country's Expressionist movement.

After studying with Rolf Dürig, Evelyne Ballestra began her series of flowers, defined by their distinctly vivid colors, satiny, silky and vibrant materials and shapes. Her work is reminiscent of the Fauvist movement, using highly intense color patterns. His juxtaposition of colors and large canvas allude to a certain freedom that can be seen in the post-impressionist approaches of Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh and Henri Matisse.
