As part of the European Heritage Days, the library, in collaboration with the Heritage Department, is presenting an exhibition.
As part of the ‘Itineraries’ theme of the European Heritage Days on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September 2024 and the National Architecture Days from 18 to 20 October 2024, we invite you to (re)discover, through an exhibition, the extraordinary diversity of architectural formulas adopted in Menton for private housing, from the origins of tourism to the eve of the Great War.
During this period, architecture became a vast field of experimentation. Unusual combinations were created, juxtaposing motifs from the past and sometimes including a repertoire with distant geographical influences. At the same time, this reference architecture made use of the materials and techniques of modern industry. Despite the urban transformations, the city has preserved a number of buildings from this period that bear witness to this artistic melting pot.
