1975-2025: 50 YEARS OF GALERIE CATHERINE ISSERT
GROUP EXHIBITION OF THE GALLERY'S ARTISTS
From 28 June to 20 September 2025
Opening on Saturday 28 June 2025 from 6pm to 10pm.
After working for Jean Fournier and Galerie Maeght in the early 1970s, Catherine Issert opened her own gallery in Saint-Paul de Vence. There, she championed a bold aesthetic that made her a pioneer and witness to the upheavals in 20th-century art history. Far from confining herself to one speciality or giving in to fashions, she has maintained a coherent and diversified ‘line’, supporting artists from Fluxus, Supports/Surfaces, conceptual art, Land art, Figuration libre and Arte Povera.
Telling the story of Catherine Issert is a journey through fifty years of artistic creation and curatorial activity in France (Claude Viallat, Gérard Traquandi, Cécile Bart, Jean Charles Blais, François Morellet, Jean-Michel Alberola). Indissociable from its geographical location - a village in the south of France frequented by many modern artists - Galerie Catherine Issert has never ceased to be open to the international scene (John M Armleder, Olivier Mosset, Christo, Lars Frederikson, Erik Dietman, Pier Paolo Calzolari, Adrian Schiess, Minjung Kim, Thomas Müller).
To mark the occasion, Galerie Catherine Issert will be presenting its book entitled ‘Galerie Catherine Issert - 1975-2025’ published by Bernard Chauveau Edition.
Edited by Bernard Chauveau, the book depicts a living space, evolving over the years and through artistic interventions, testifying as much to the gallery owner's loyalty as to the effervescence of a business that has remained financially viable despite being far from Paris. This strong regional base, nurtured by privileged links with the Villa Arson and museum institutions, is an integral part of the gallery's identity, without preventing it from reflecting the multiplicity of contemporary global creativity.
Artists exhibited : Jean-Michel ALBEROLA, John M ARMLEDER, Cécile BART, Martin BELOU, BEN, Jean Charles BLAIS, Pier Paolo CALZOLARI, Denis CASTELLAS, Daphne CORREGAN, Pierre DESCAMPS, Alexandre DUFAYE, Gautier FERRERO, Yayoï GUNJI, Minjung KIM, François MORELLET, Thomas MÜLLER, Bernard PAGÈS, Pascal PINAUD, Adrian SCHIESS, Mathieu SCHMITT, Xavier THEUNIS, Gérard TRAQUANDI, Felice VARINI, Michel VERJUX, Claude VIALLAT, Marine WALLON.
