20 years after the artist's death, the commune of Saint-Paul de Vence is paying tribute to this pioneer of the New Realist movement. In collaboration with exhibition curator Gérard Bosio, more than fifty emblematic works are on show at the Espace André Verdet and in the village streets.
Tracing his creative career from the 1950s to the 2000s, the exhibition highlights the wealth of the artist's plastic innovations through themes as varied as ‘Accumulations’, ‘Coupes et colères’ and ‘Combustions’. Arman was distinguished by a rigorously serial method that turned the object from a motif into the raw material of the work: accumulations, anger, combustions, cuts and slices became his signatures.
A key artist of the second half of the 20th century, to be (re)discovered throughout the summer in Saint-Paul de Vence.
