An unprecedented reconstruction of the previous layout of this local and national heritage jewel.
Bormes, Colors of a Century retraces one hundred years of cultural and heritage life through two complementary perspectives:
The eye of the artists, who have elevated Bormes in their works.
The memory of its inhabitants, who have shaped the village’s history.
Spread across two levels, the exhibition offers a sensory immersion among Mediterranean landscapes, intimate stories, and pictorial creations. More than 80 works, drawn from the MHAB collections, national museums (Musée d’Orsay, Musée de l’Annonciade…), and private collectors, are on display. Around thirty major artists are featured, including Henri-Edmond Cross, Théo Van Rysselberghe, Emmanuel-Charles Bénézit, Roberta González, Georges-Henri Pescadère… Thanks to exceptional loans from major institutions and private collections, visitors can explore works by painters who captured Bormes over time. It’s an invitation to observe the evolution of this village through different perspectives and stylistic eras.
Alongside this artistic journey, an immersive section brings to life the collective memory of Bormes: testimonies, photographs, archives, and everyday objects recount local life and its major transformations. Younger generations also contribute their vision through interviews and original creations.
This anniversary exhibition embodies the spirit of MHAB: a living space, open and in constant dialogue with artists, residents, and visitors. It is accompanied by a festive program throughout the year: concerts, conferences, workshops, meetings, and activities for all.
