The Saint-Eloi festival celebrates the brotherhood of muleteers who crossed the Col de Tende in the days of the Salt Road. Costumed cavalcades, folk music and entertainment await you for a weekend at the heart of Haute Roya traditions.
The second weekend in July sees the launch of the Saint-Eloi festivities. For two days, you're invited to Tende to discover a living heritage and a unique tradition.
Saturday:
- 5pm: Opening concert on the Serrassi organ - Collégiale Notre-Dame de l'Assomption
- 8:30pm: Blessing of the fire - Place des chapelles des pénitents
- 9pm: Torchlight procession through the village streets to Place de la Mairie.
- 10:00 pm: Fireworks followed by a grand ball
Sunday:
- 9:30am: Departure of the cavalcade - Place de la Mairie
- 10:30am: Blessing of the mules and mass - Collégiale Notre-Dame de l'Assomption
- 11:30am: Departure of the cavalcade - Collégiale Notre-Dame de l'Assomption
- 12h00: Nomination of new priors - Place de la Mairie
- 12:15pm: Aperitif offered to the public - Chapiteau place des écoles
- Afternoon entertainment on Place de la Mairie and under the big top
